Why should I join?
Approximately 10 people are killed on UK roads every day and many more are seriously injured! Over 90% of road traffic accidents are a result of driver / rider error but it has been shown that Advanced drivers / riders are 7 times less likely to be involved in an accident.

Most accidents happen between 2-6am and mid afternoon between 2-4pm, when the body’s natural clock is set at daily low points.

This is because Advanced drivers / riders are trained to approach all road hazards in a systematic way using the Police System of Car and Motorcycle Control. The 'System' as it is called, comprises 5 phases:
- Information
- Position
- Speed
- Gear
- Acceleration.
The Advanced driver / rider controls the vehicle by developing a driving / riding plan that puts the System into practice. The key elements of the driving / riding plan are;
- Concentration
- Observation
- Anticipation

Many children are injured close to their home on residential roads.
Over 70 per cent of drivers break the speed limit on these roads - and many of those drivers are parents.
The "school run" brings with it a 20 per cent growth in rush hour traffic and as a result, a greater risk to pedestrians. IAM fact sheet
