Costs involved
The IAM offer a 'Skill For Life' package, which costs £85 including the test fee. For this you receive:
- The IAM Book: Advanced Driving (or Advanced Motorcycling as appropriate)
- Copy of the Highway Code
- Initial year's membership of local Affiliated Group (from date of joining)
- Initial year's membership of the IAM (from date of passing test)
Note that you do the preparation in your own car with the Observer sitting beside you and there is no charge for the guidance given! (Approximately 20 hours for the average Associate).
This is because the IAM and CAM are Registered Charities and Observers do not receive any payment for the guidance they provide. |
There is a £10 discount for Associates under 26 years of age.

Why? Observers are dedicated people who believe in Road Safety and are prepared to give up their time, free of charge, to help you become a better driver / rider. You can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit card as you wish. You can also purchase your Skill For Life Package on line, through the IAM Head Office.

Please note that Motorcycle Observers use their own machines and there is a charge of £5 per Associate per guidance session to help redress some of the running expenses. This can be paid by cash/cheque directly to the Observer. |
